ABOUT DR STACEY COMPTON

Dr Stacey Compton is the Medical Director of Queensland Sports Physicians, and the Queensland RED-S and Athlete Performance Clinic.

Dr Compton is a Sports and Exercise Medicine Physician, with a special interest in:

  • Relative energy deficiency in sport
  • Eating disorders in athletes
  • Bone stress injuries
  • Menstrual disturbance in athletes (including amenorrhoea),
  • Endurance sports
  • Aesthetic Sports
  • Dance medicine; and
  • Paediatric / adolescent sports medicine.

Dr Compton has extensive experience in endurance sports, and is currently the Chief Medical Officer for Aus Triathlon and the Queensland Academy of Sport Triathlon program. She consults to a number of other sporting programs, including the Queensland Ballet Academy, and is currently the Third Doctor for the AFLW.

Other previous Sports Medicine experience and event coverage includes Attendance at the Commonwealth games 2022 and 2018, Club Doctor for Brisbane Roar Football Q League and Y League Teams,  Chief Medical Officer to Diving Australia, Doctor to the Queensland Academy of Sport Waterpolo, Golf and Softball Programs, Brisbane International Tennis, Swimming Australia Nationals and Grand Prix, elite cricket, ITU medical director for elite triathlon racing, marathon coverage and numerous Paralympic sporting events.  and consulting to a number of other sporting programs including Queensland Rugby Sevens, Brisbane Roar Football Academy. Dr Compton has also worked in the Australian Institute of Sport Medical Department, supporting athletes in the residential programs and training camps.

In addition to these roles, Dr Compton has worked extensively with community rugby teams. She has provided medical coverage of Rugby Union matches at the Premier, NRC, ARU and QRU junior representative level. She has also been part of the concussion team for the Wallabies at their Brisbane based matches, and provided medical coverage for Intrust Super Cup Rugby League matches, and AFLW matches.

Dr Compton has also been a registered Physiotherapist since 2005, having graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy and Bachelor of Exercise Science. Dr Compton brings together a combination of medical, physiotherapy and exercise science skills to the practice of sports medicine.

To Dr Compton, supporting the management of any patient’s injury or illness is as important as assisting an elite athlete’s return to competition.

Dr Compton appreciates a multidisciplinary approach to patient care. She collaborates with her patients’ practitioners to develop personalized treatment and management plans, and believes this tailored approach, together with accurate diagnosis best allows an early return to sport, exercise and work.
